Entertaiment is the art and science of presenting shows for the amusement, delight, or enjoyment of people. It has evolved into a wide variety of forms, and it may be adapted for an audience of one, or for a worldwide television or Internet-based audience. The word entertainment is derived from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means “to hold inside.” It also has ties to the Indo-European root of ten, meaning to stretch, as in ten-ing out.
Entertainment often hits on the points that humans were evolved to deeply respond to in order to understand the world around us. Examples include backstabbing, murders and other themes that the brain is wired to respond to as important in the social realm.
